After a beautiful showcase at the stunning Yirramboi Festival in May, Blak Sound program artists will also be performing at Melbourne Music Week on the Opening night of November 14th. “This support of Blak Sound artists to showcase their talents as part of the City of Melbourne’s thriving musical ecosystem at Melbourne Music week is a timely messaging of the importance of First Nations Music to the broader anatomy of Melbourne Music. Blak Sound, is upholding the power, importance and depth of importance of song of First Nations Peoples as vital arts of the now. In order to truly be a world leader in terms of creativity and the intersections of arts and ethics, including First Nations Artists such as those from the Blak Sound program at MMW is a vital step to be made. That said, it is very positive that Melbourne Music Week is making a commitment to acknowledging the power of works created by First Nations artists in this way for the MMW 2019 Program”, said Neil Morris, VMDO First Peoples Business Manager.
