Experts In Residence: Managing Conflict

Published 19 February, 2020

The VMDO Experts in Residence program provides Victorian music businesses with access to one-on-one expert advice in a variety of business fields. Our next Experts in Residence session will be a group workshop about managing conflict.

The Managing Conflict workshop was selected after receiving feedback from previous EIR participants, about experts they would like to learn from in the future.

This workshop is also a response to key findings in the forthcoming report Career Paths: The Victorian Music Business Career Life Cycle. By providing industry professionals with opportunities to improve their interpersonal skills and address conflicts, it is likely they will be better equipped to shape healthier work environments around them.

There are many situations in the music industry where challenging conversations and conflict can arise. Emotions can run high under pressure.

Moderated by Jill Noble, who has 17 years of HR and consulting experience, this interactive and thought-provoking workshop will teach you how to deal with your own emotions and with difficult, emotional and sometimes unreasonable people and situations.

Objectives

In this conflict management program, you will learn how to:

  • understand what causes people's difficult behaviours

  • keep your cool under pressure

  • use listening skills to get the information you need to help the people you work with

  • maintain a positive state of mind and not take work related conflict home

  • diffuse aggressive behaviours

  • confidently and assertively manage difficult situations

  • negotiate satisfactory outcomes

ICML training - interactive and engaging experiences

Institute for Communication, Management and Leadership (ICML) offer a fresh approach to training. The sessions are dynamic and engaging based on best practice adult learning techniques.

Note: The VMDO Experts In Residence program is targeted towards Victorian business professionals, currently working in the music industry.
