Experts in Residence – First Steps In Hiring: Is it Time to Grow your Team?

An important moment in the growth of any business is the moment you decide or realise that you have to grow the team. Running a solo business can be stressful in itself, but taking on responsibility for an employee is a whole extra burden.

If you’re a Victorian music business currently considering your first hire, VMDO have teamed up with FWRD Folk to create a program for you, which might help make the experience less stressful, and more successful.

Four businesses will receive a session with Vanessa Bassili of music recruitment company, FWRD Folk, who will guide you through the stages of hiring. From “Am I ready?”, “Can I afford it?” and “How will I know the right person?”, through preparing job descriptions and interview questions to making that finalselection. You will leave with a number of tools to assist you in making the next step. And even if you leave deciding that the timing isn’t right for you yet, that is a positive result.

Next Steps:
Successful businesses will be advised by Friday 30 October
Successful applicants will be asked to complete a pre-discussion questionnaire to ensure you get the best from the experience
Meetings will be online and held over November - December 2026
