Fortnightly Follower Update

Artist Analytica and VMDO have teamed up to produce the Fortnightly Follower Update. Compiled from Spotify data, the update highlights thirty-five Victorian acts across seven different career stages, from those with less than 250 followers up to those with over 50,000, and shows who has experienced most follower growth over the past 14 days. Follower number are regarded as a genuinely meaningful metric across streaming services, giving insight into engagement beyond mere passive listening, and the stories behind these moments can be both interesting and educational. Spikes could show a new band on the rise, an old song from a popular act being used on TV or even a viral TikTok moment.

This update has all sorts of purposes. If you’re a festival booker looking for new up-and-comers, an A&R finding out what’s hot, or just a music fan looking to find their new favourite band, it’s worth taking a look.

Every effort has been made to ensure the acts mentioned are genuinely Victorian by the standard most widely accepted by government funding bodies. That is:

• Composers, performers and artists resident in Victoria

• Composers, performers and artists born in Victoria

• Composers, performers and artists who are strongly identified with Victoria

• Traditional owners from Victoria

The numbers will be released fortnightly on Tuesdays on the VMDO Instagram.
